A guide to the different types of facelifts

A facelift is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries performed in the United States. A facelift provides a way to combat the common signs of aging on the face, such as drooping skin as well as lines and wrinkles. A lot of people think that there is just one type of facelift but there are in fact multiple procedures that are used depending on the goals of the patient.

Below is a guide to the different types of facelifts you can get.

Full facelift

A full facelift, also known as a ‘traditional facelift’ is what most people think of when they think facelifts. It is a comprehensive form of surgery that can be used to treat many signs of aging on the face, including bags under the eyes, lines around the mouth sagging of the cheeks and loose skin around the chin and jowls. Because a full facelift is such a comprehensive surgery, it does come with a bigger scar that usually runs from the temple to the neck, however the surgeon will ensure this is as discreet as possible.

Mid-facelift

A mid facelift, as the name would suggest, focuses on the mid-face, namely the cheeks and eyes. Many people opt for a mid-facelift since the eyes and cheeks are often the areas of the face that are first affected by aging. Because of this, mid-facelifts are very popular with younger men and women who simply want to rejuvenate their face rather than going for something as comprehensive as a full facelift. A mid-facelift also allows the surgeon to specifically target muscle and skin that they wouldn’t otherwise be able to in a full facelift.

Mini facelift

A mini facelift is a way to focus on one very specific part of the face and can be done either with or without an endoscope. Excess fat and muscle can be removed in problem areas of the face and minimal incisions are required. Mini facelifts are a good option for those who only want to focus on one specific area of the face. They are often sought out as an alternative to cosmetic injectable treatments, such as Botox since a mini facelift will give longer lasting results.
