Facelift FAQ’s

What is a facelift?

A facelift is a type of cosmetic surgery where the skin on the face is pulled upwards in order to tackle problem such as loose skin, lines and wrinkles.

What are the benefits?

The benefits of getting a facelift include –

  • Improved skin quality
  • A more youthful appearance
  • Improved confidence

Are there any non-surgical alternatives?

If you don’t like the idea of getting surgery then there are injectable treatments that can help to get rid of lines and wrinkles on the face. However for loose and sagging skin, a facelift or necklift are the most effective long-term options.

Will I be left with scars?

To perform a facelift, incisions have to be made in the skin. However these incisions are made in areas that are hidden from plain sight, such as around the ears and hairline. The incisions are also very small so the scars are barely noticeable, if at all.

How do I choose a good surgeon?

In order to find the right surgeon, you should ask yourself the following questions –

  • Are they board certified?
  • Do they have a lot of experience performing facelifts?
  • Have you seen before and after pictures of their patients?
  • Do you feel comfortable communicating with them?

How long will the results last?

A facelift provides long-term results providing the patient takes care of their body and skin. It’s hard to determine the exact length of time that the results are maintained since so many factors come into play but the results of a facelift are much longer lasting when compared to injectable treatments such as BOTOX.

Is it painful?

There might be some pain after the surgery but there will not be pain during the procedure itself since it’s done under anaesthesia. To help you deal with any pain you experience in your recovery, you’ll be given pain medication by your surgeon.

Am I a good candidate?

A good candidate for a facelift is a person who –

  • Is in good health
  • Is doing it for themselves and no one else
  • Is a non-smoker
  • Is realistic about the outcome

What is the recovery like?

The recovery from a facelift tends to vary from one patient to the next. Swelling, bruising and soreness are normal for the first couple of days after surgery. After this time you’ll continue to heal and should be back to normal within a few weeks.
