Breast Augmentation, also known as augmentation mammoplasty, is a procedure to enlarge or enhance the fullness and shape of your breasts. Breast augmentation can help restore symmetry to uneven breasts, improve breast/body proportion, re-establish volume that may have been lost with pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss or aging, and generally enhance breast shape, size and contour.

is a breast augmentation right for me?
Breast Augmentation helps women with small or mis-shapen breasts feel more confident about their physical appearance. Patients report significant boost in self-confidence both with and without clothing. Women of all ages seek breast augmentation. Ideal candidates are in good health, are not pregnant or nursing, retain a stable body weight, and have a desire to improve appearance while maintaining healthy, realistic expectations. It is important to communicate your goals regarding the specific results you hope to achieve with your surgeon who will work with you to determine the right surgical approach.
common questions and concerns
Are breast implants safe? Breast health should be a concern for all our patients. The medical evidence is very conclusive. Dr. Collins assures patients there is no evidence of increase in the incidence of breast cancer among women with implants. The FDA continually conducts rigorous studies on breast implant performance.
Will I experience a loss in nipple or breast sensitivity? Immediately following surgery, sensitivity may change, but generally only lasts until normal, post-surgical swelling resolves. In fact, nipples can be more sensitive for a period of time following surgery.
Can I breast feed with implants? Breastfeeding can still be an option for women with implants. A future decision to nurse may be a consideration in incision and placement approach. As an example, the inframammary incision is generally most compatible with future breastfeeding plans; and the areola incision less so.

what are my surgical options?

Incision choice is discussed preoperatively but most commonly is performed through and inframammary fold crease (the crease under the breast.) Perareolar and transaxillary approaches are sometimes used as well. In many cases, submuscular placement under the pectoralis muscle is preferred however subglandular placement (over the muscle) may be recommended depending on circumstances. These decisions are carefully discussed and made during the preoperative consultation.
Dr. Collins and his surgical team will guide you in selecting the best implant for you as well as determining the size, incision and placement to be used.
Breast augmentation may, in some instances, be combined with a breast lift where the patient’s goal is to simultaneously address excessive sagging and improved positioning. Some breast augmentation candidates may also benefit from liposuction around the underarm, chest wall, or upper abdomen to improve the overall shape and appearance of the implants.
