A tummy tuck, also known as an abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess skin and fat from the abdomen and at the same time flatten and tighten the abdominal muscles and midsection.
is a tummy tuck right for me?
After pregnancy and with weight gain and weight loss, the body develops excess skin and fat and loses skin elasticity and muscle tone. The ideal candidate for an abdominoplasty is someone who has been unable to tone his or her abdominal region, even with the help of a healthy diet and exercise routine.
common questions and concerns
Can I expect my tummy tuck results to last? Although a tummy tuck can have dramatic results and can greatly enhance your appearance and self-confidence, it is not a weight loss procedure, and it cannot prevent future weight gain. However, with proper maintenance, the results of your surgery can last for years to come.
How noticeable will my scar be? Post-surgical tummy tuck scars are unavoidable. The larger the amount of skin you would like to have removed during the tummy tuck procedure, the longer the scar will be. Although tummy tuck scars can be fairly prominent, they are placed so that they are easily hidden by a person’s underwear and swimsuit.
what are my surgical options?
Standard Tummy Tuck: This is one of the most commonly performed tummy tucks and a favorite among women who have had children. Abdominal muscles are tightened and excess tissue removed. Liposuction may be used at the same time for desired contouring.
Mini Tummy Tuck: Often called the “scarless tummy tuck” because of a modest incision. This is recommended for patients with stubborn belly fat, where diet and exercise have not sufficed. An incision is made along the bikini line to tighten muscles and remove excess skin.
Endoscopic Tummy Tuck: This is perfect for patients who want to tone and tighten loose muscles in the abdomen. It will not remove loose skin. After a short incision, your surgeon performs the procedure using an endoscope and camera.
Circumferential Tummy Tuck: This is the most extensive tummy tuck procedure, usually following extreme weight loss where sagging, excess skin drapes the entire torso. The incision circles the entire waistline. Excess skin is removed and muscles tightened. When buttocks and thighs are included in the procedure this is often called a body lift. Liposuction is almost always performed with this procedure.
